• On August 12, the AirUCI ORU hosted a Power Speech seminar presented by Professor Eli Simon designed to enhance the presentation skills of speakers at any level.

• AirUCI's Sergey Nizkorodov was the featured speaker on April 29 at a seminar in Irvine, CA presented by TSI, Inc., the leading manufacturer of aerosol measurement equipment.  Details

• AirUCI hosted a reception for Dr. Zeev Rosenzweig, Program Director for NSF's Analytical and Surface Chemistry group, on April 8, 2009.

• AirUCI hosted a talk by Dr. Paula Hudson of Cal-State Fullerton on March 10, 2009.

• AirUCI hosted a reception for Dr. Robert Sawyer on February 9, 2009.

• The annual AirUCI workshop was held January 27-28, 2009 in Laguna Beach, California.   View agenda

November 2008

• The initial meeting of the ORU faculty was held November 12-14, 2008 at UCLA's Lake Arrowhead Conference Center. 

October 2008

• To celebrate the rapid formation of our ORU, a reception was held October 6, 2008 at 4:30 pm in Rowland Hall room 386.

December 2007

• December 3: A special event commemorating the 100th meeting of the Scientific Review Panel for Airborne Toxic Chemicals of the California Air Resources Board was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Irvine, with special guests Jim Pitts and Barbara Finlayson-Pitts of AirUCI in attendance.

• October 17: Dr. Tracy Caldwell, NASA astronaut, visited UCI in an event hosted by AirUCI at the Beckman Center.   Details

• AirUCI's 3rd annual Summer Teacher Workshop was held June 25-July 6.  This is an intensive Environmental Chemistry program geared for science teachers in grades 7-12, with lectures, labs, and university extension credit.  More information

• Our third annual Community Day was held March 29, 2007 on the UCI campus.  This event is designed to present an overview of our research to those in the community at large who may not have a background in science, but who nevertheless have an interest in air quality, climate change, and similar issues into which AirUCI conducts research.  For a general idea of the event, see info about Community Day

• December 11-13: the annual workshop of the AirUCI PIs, invited speakers, and Advisory Panel was held in Christchurch, New Zealand.   Details

November 2006

• November 16: seminar at UCI by by Professor Bernd Abel of the University of Goettingen and Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry at Nikolausberg-Goettingen, Germany
• November 14: AirUCI director Prof. Barbara Finlayson-Pitts was the Johnston Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley.  The Johnston Lecture is one of Cal's most prestigious, and is presented as part of Physical Chemistry Seminar series for an audience of typically 100+ faculty members, post-docs, and graduate students.

Summer 2006 

• June 26-July 11: AirUCI's second annual Teacher Workshop in Environmental Chemistry.  This course brings our cutting-edge research into high school classrooms by sharing our findings with local science teachers.

• January 18: AirUCI co-hosted an evening to honor Dr. Alan Lloyd, Secretary of California State EPA and member of the AirUCI advisory committee.  As part of the Chancellor's Distinguished Fellows series, Dr. Lloyd spoke on Air Quality, the Environment, and Energy from Smog to Global Climate Change at the Beckman Center on the UCI campus.  More info
