Experimental Research

Experiments employ a variety of approaches:

  1. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy with long path gas cells (LP-FTIR) and attenuated total reflectance (ATR) for thin films

  2. Aerosol chamber with particle generation and measurement techniques, as well as IR and UV spectroscopy and atmospheric  pressure ionization mass spectrometry (API-MS) for analysis of gases

  3. Laser desorption-Fourier transform mass spectrometry (LD-FTMS)

  4. Thermal desorption mass spectrometry (TDMS)

  5. Both conventional and high pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS)

  6. Aerosol chemical ionization mass spectrometry

  7. Infrared cavity ring down spectroscopy (IR-CRDS)

  8. Aerosol photochemistry systems

  9. Electron spin resonance studies (ESR)

  10. Computer-controlled scanning electron microscopy with  energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDS)

  11. Environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM)

  12. Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS)
