AirUCI research featured as two recent cover articles!

The research groups of AirUCI PIs Barbara Finlayson-Pitts and Benny Gerber had a recent paper featured as the cover article of the September 2, 2009 issue of The Journal of the American Chemical Society.  Read the JACS article

In addition, these two research groups and that of AirUCI PI Donald Dabdub, in collaboration with Dr. Mark S. Gordon of Iowa State University, had a recent paper selected as the cover article for the August 18, 2009 issue of The Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences journal.  We're very proud of you all!

NSF report now viewable!

A June, 2009 National Science Foundation-sponsored workshop met to discuss current issues in Environmental Chemical Sciences, and AirUCI Director Barbara Finlayson-Pitts was a panelist.  Their report notes the importance of understanding the atmosphere at the chemical/molecular level to make more accurate climate predictions and better environmental policy.  Read the report

NSF article highlights AirUCI research!

AirUCI teacher workshop an NAS exemplary program! 

We are honored that our summer teacher workshop has been cited by the National Academy of Sciences as an exemplary outreach program, and that our workshop is described in depth on page 26 of their 2009 publication, Strengthening High School Chemistry Education through Teacher Outreach Programs.  Way to go, team! 

AirUCI researcher among Gebel Award winners! 

Two UCI Chemistry students — Michael B. Shaghafi and AirUCI's Emily A. Bruns — were presented with the third annual Michael E. Gebel award at the 2009 Edward K.C. Lee dinner held at the University Club on May 28, 2009.  This award is presented to second year graduate students working in environmental chemistry and who have had a period of work before continuing on to graduate school.  In addition, Chris Harmon in AirUCI's Nizkorodov group was presented with the Joan Rowland Award.  We're very proud of our award winning team, especially our student researchers!

AirUCI grad students receive graduate fellowships!

Emily Bruns of the Finlayson-Pitts group has been awarded a very prestigious and hard-to-get National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship.  Tom Boatwright in Michael Dennin's group has received an equally prestigious Toxic Substances Research and Teaching Program (TSR&TP) fellowship from the University of California .  Way to go, Emily and Tom!

Scientific American highlights AirUCI research!

Scientific American has included AirUCI research in an April 7, 2009 slideshow highlighting ten important atmospheric experiments.  (Slide number five shows our lab with the flow tube).  We are deeply honored!

Clean Air Coalition honors Barbara Finlayson-Pitts!

AirUCI Director Barbara Finlayson-Pitts has been awarded the Coalition for Clean Air's prestigious Carl Moyer Award for Scientific Leadership and Technical Excellence for her work in restoring clean air to California!  Other recipients at the June 12, 2009 event at the Los Angeles Athletic Club  include U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis and CARB Chairman Mary Nichols.  We're proud of you, Barb!  Newspaper article
