Professor Vy Dong has been selected by the Royal Society of Chemistry's Organic Division to receive the 2020 Merck, Sharp & Dohme Award for her creative applications of metal hydride catalysis to address diverse challenges in organic synthesis, including carbon-carbon activation and cyclic peptide construction.

Professor Don Blake named UCI Distinguished Alumnus

Chemistry Professor Don Blake (M.S., 1980, Ph. D. 1984) is the recipient of a UCI Distinguished Alumnus Award from the UCI Alumni Association. The purpose of the award is "to recognize an alumnus who has achieved great professional prominence in their field and is engaged in the community, furthering the goals of UCI and/or the UCI Alumni Association."

Don will be recognized at a future Lauds and Laurels Ceremony, but in the mean time we congratulate him on this well-deserved honor.

Congratulations to Professor Andy Borovik on being named the 2019 Richard C. Tolman Award Recipient by the Southern California Section of the American Chemical Society.

Congratulations to Professor Andrej Lupták, professor of pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, and molecular biology & biochemistry, on being named a Guggenheim fellow! Professor Luptak plans to work on the discovery and development of RNAs regulated by light.
