Inorganic and Organometallic

Inorganic and organometallic chemistry research at UCI ranges from synthesis of organometallic complexes for organic synthesis and industrial catalysis to materials science based on supramolecular and macromolecular inorganic building blocks to the generation of greenhouse gases by metal-based enzymes. Students can obtain broad exposure to both instrumentation (e.g., multinuclear, high-resolution, and solid-state NMR, EPR, X-ray crystallography, magnetism, electrochemistry, optical spectroscopy, and photophysical methods) and experimental techniques (e.g., handling air sensitive compounds, thin film technology, protein engineering, and polymerization chemistry).
