Positive ion electrospray spectrum of a pentacoordinate siliconate tetraanionic molecular square showing multiple charge states and differential presence of triethyl ammonium and proton counterions
The Mass Spectrometry Facility at UCI is dedicated to the rapid solution of analytical problems in support of research at UCI. The instrumentation is state-of-the-art and sophisticated but every effort has been made to enable researchers to obtain the answers they need themselves.
To this end four of the seven instruments are student operated via "open access" software and a fifth instrument may be used by students after training. By being set up this way very rapid answers are provided on a 24/7 operating schedule. This type of operation is uncommon in a University setting but has proved to be very successful with minimal instrument downtime. Over 1,200 samples a month are being analyzed.
