Academic Counselor

How do I schedule an appointment to meet with an academic counselor?

Physical Sciences Student Affairs counselors ad vise undergraduate students in Chemistry. In addition, the office is available for non-majors who need assistance with issues involving service and General Education courses in the Physical Sciences. Students are able to see any available counselor or peer advisor (by appointment or on a walk-in basis), see the Physical Sciences Student Affairs Office web site for details.

How do I satisfy the Chem 1A prerequisite?

I want to add a course but it is after the 2nd week deadline.  Can I still add the course?

You may submit an online enrollment exception request to add the course.  Please note that you may be asked to provide verification from the instructor that you have been attending the course.  Changes after the deadline are never guaranteed.

I want to drop a course but it is after the 2nd week de adline.  Can I still drop the course?

You may submit an online enrollment exception request to drop the course.  Please note that approval to drop the course is not guaranteed.  All requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Can I receive a refund for a Chemistry laboratory if I dropped after week 1?

No, Chemistry laboratory fees are non-refundable. If you are enrolled in a Chemistry Laboratory class after week 1 you will be charged a lab fee and are responsible for paying the fee. 

Can I take a Chemistry Lecture (i.e. Chem 51B) in a different quarter than the required co-requisite (i.e. Chem 51LB)?

No, the Department of Chemistry strictly enforces co-requisites. The required lecture and lab have to be taken in the same quarter.

Yes, Chemistry offers free tutoring in General and Organic Chemistry. Please see website for details: https://www.chem.uci.edu/undergrad/tutors

How can I access ChemDraw?

UCI students, faculty, and staff may download ChemDraw through the following link: https://www.chem.uci.edu/~chemoffice/

UCI eTech fees pay for undergraduate student use.  Graduate students, faculty, and staff may download the program without any direct charge.  Their academic unit will be accessed a per per son fee, which is currently $15.  (Calculated based on the percentage of total individuals using the program.)
