The UCI Chemistry Excellence in DEI Award is presented to recognize individuals who significantly contribute to creating a more inclusive, just, and welcoming community in UCI’s Department of Chemistry. If you know someone who embodies these traits we invite you to submit your nomination by June 1st, 2023.
We are looking for individual(s) who demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through department or broader activities, including recruitment, outreach, mentoring and teaching. Nominees should be role models for building a supportive educational and professional community that fosters success and belonging for everyone, and enhances support and resources, especially for underrepresented and underserved groups.
Who is eligible for this award?
This award was primarily created to recognize the work of our graduate students, however we will consider anyone with a primary appointment in Chemistry that has made extraordinary contributions in this area.
What are the nomination criteria?
Nominees will be evaluated on ways in which they perform above and beyond expectations in the areas listed below:
- Contributes to building a supportive educational and professional community experience that fosters belonging;
- Demonstrates commitment to Chemistry’s goals of diversity, equity, and inclusion;
- Demonstrates exceptional dedication in supporting diversity of all kinds;
- Exemplifies the UCI Department of Chemistry Statement of Community;
In addressing these criteria, please provide specific examples of how the nominee contributes above and beyond the regular duties associated with their position, demonstrates effectiveness that exceeds expectations in interacting with underrepresented members of our community, and advances our Department DEI Strategic Plan.
Who may nominate and how do I nominate for this award?
Any Department member may nominate individuals for this award, self nominations are also welcome;
Provide a brief statement supporting the nomination based on the criteria listed.
