The Department of Chemistry has set aside a small budget to fund faculty and graduate students to present at HBCU/MSI/PUIs and other institutions where outreach can be impactful, either by increasing diversity at UCI or encouraging broader representation in STEM.

This award has been developed to offer modest financial support to Chemistry faculty and students who plan to visit an institution that has large population of students that are either first generation, underrepresented in STEM fields, or have limited access to research opportunities. Typically, presenters will be invited to discuss their research, this award is offered to encourage presenters to expand their talk to include opportunities in Chemistry at UC Irvine. Slides for use in the recruitment portion of the talk can be found here.

Awards will typically be granted up to $500 and can be used to pay for any costs associated with travel to the institution, including mileage and meals (subject to UCI travel policy).

Timeline

Awards are made on a rolling basis each fiscal year until funding is exhausted.

Application and Award Process

Please submit the application, and we will try to respond back within 1-2 weeks. Awards will be processed post-trip as part of the travel reimbursement process.
