UCI LEADS is designed to identify educationally or economically disadvanted undergraduates pursuing courses of study in science, technology, mathematics or engineering who are likely to succeed in graduate school. This program provides students with educational experiences that prepare them to assume positions or leadership in the industry, government, public service and academia following the completion of a doctoral degree, preferably, at the University of California. 

Program Components:

•Two year commitment (students should be in their final two years as undergraduates)
•Two summer research experiences, one at UC Irvine and one at any other UC campus
•Faculty mentored research (summer and academic year)
•$4000 summer research stipend
•Academic enrichment and leadership development
•Annual system-wide research symposium
•Conference travel funds
•Travel to other UC campus for training and exposure to graduate study opportunities
