Chem M3LC Labs

Each week there will be a 4-hour Laboratory. The class is broken in to four smaller lab sections with Lab TAs; pairs of students will work together on each lab. The tThe following is a schedule of the weekly Laboratory experiments. These labs have been designed to gear up to a final Seawater project in Weeks 8 and 9 in which everyone will analyze seawater samples collected by everyone from the South Bay (or elsewhere). A laboratory report will written by each student for the first 7 labs; this laboratory report will teach you how to present your results in a meaninful context including complete with error analysis and other information needed for someone to repeat the experiments. For the final two week Seawater analysis, each pair of students in a lab will design an experiment to measure a concentration of an ion in seawater. (e.g. Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl- Br-) Students will bring in one or two liters of seawater in the second week for everyone in the class to analyze. The final joint report from the pair of students will be the generation of a Standard Procedure for the ion analysis that was developed in class.
