Welcome to AirUCI
Atmospheric Integrated Research for
Understanding Chemistry at I
nterfaces

We are a research team based at the University of California, Irvine that focuses on research into chemical reactions at the air/water interface and how they affect the atmosphere.

Funded by the National Science Foundation and headed by Professor Barbara J. Finlayson-Pitts, we began in 2002 as a Collaborative Research in Chemistry (CRC) group.  In September, 2004 we became an Environmental Molecular Sciences Institute (EMSI)

In July, 2008 we formed an Organized Research Unit (ORU) on the UCI campus, which ensures a stable level of campus support for our research institute and provides other institutional benefits.  It also greatly expands the number of Primary Investigators and the opportunities for new research and collaborative activities.

Support from the Chemistry, Atmospheric Sciences, and International Divisions of the National Science Foundation along with the University of California, Irvine have made this institute and its research possible.
