Overview: The Department of Chemistry is pleased to offer a fellowship for students nearing completion of their dissertation. The Department of Chemistry Dissertation Fellowship provides funding to students in their last quarter at UCI to complete their dissertation. This award is for students in the Chemistry or ChAMP – Chemistry PhD program who have a realistic expectation of degree completion during Fall 2023 through Summer 2024. The award will allow students to forgo their non-research related employment obligations to concentrate on completing their degree. Priority will be given to students who have had a significant teaching load during their degree program. Teaching requirements must be fulfilled prior to applying. If you have questions regarding the status of your teaching requirement, please contact msibley@uci.edu.

Student are encouraged to apply for the Graduate Dean's Dissertation Fellowship in addition to the Department of Chemistry’s Dissertation Fellowship. The same materials can be used for both applications, students will only be eligible to receive one UCI dissertation fellowship.

Submission and selection process: Applications can be submitted online via a Google Form. Applications can be submitted by a student or student’s advisor.

Submission deadline: June 30th, 2023

Application package should include:

  • CV
  • Unofficial transcript
  • Letter of support
  • Student statement that addresses the following areas (500 words max):
    • Research Status: brief non-technical description of your research status and progress to date
    • Detailed Plan: timeline for degree completion
    • Rationale: explanation of how the fellowship will help you finish within the specified timeline
    • Past Employment: description of past university employment while a graduate student
    • Funding: List of funding/fellowships you received or expect to receive, including year and amount
