Hal's History of the UCI Chemistry Department

Welcome to my History page.  As you can see, I've been around a while (in fact, since the dawn of creation), and I'm trying to put it all down on paper and in pictures.

I obtained  my undergraduate education at Colorado State University, receiving a BS in Chemistry on 1959.  I then pursued graduate studies at the University of Illinois and was awarded a Ph. D. in Organic Chemistry in 1963.  I spent 2 1/2 years as a post doctoral colleague with Karl Folkers at Stanford Research Institute before joining the founding faculty at UCI in the fall of 1965.  During my tenure as a faculty member in the Chemistry Department at UCI I served as Chair of the Chemistry Department and Dean of the School of Physical Sciences.

During my service I taught at all levels, published over 200 papers and mentored 44 students to their doctorate degrees.

Below is a list of pages with bite-sized excerpts about the history of our department.  Please email me if you'd like a copy of my latest draft, or have pictures or stories of your own to share on this page.
