If you are interested in independent study, please email chemistry@uci.edu with the following details:

  • Name
  • UCI Student ID Number
  • UCINetID
  • Faculty Advisor
  • Summer Session Term
  • Number of Units

Once approved, the Summer Session office will be notified and provide you with an Enrollment Form for Independent Study via DocuSign and instructions for submitting payment. The cost for independent study for UCI or other UC undergraduate students is $139.50 per unit. For more information, please visit https://summer.uci.edu/independent-study/. 

You can request to enroll in the following courses:

  • Chem 180: Undergrad Research
    • Units: 4 - If you would like to enroll in a research for less than 4 units you will need to enroll in Chem 199. 
  • Chem 199: Independent Study
    • Units 1-4 - please speak to your faculty sponsor to determine the appropriate number of units.

Students typically enroll in 4 units of Chem 180/199 for the 10-Week Summer Session. You can contact the Summer Session Office at (949) 824- 6494 or summer-session@uci.edu for questions.
