Department of Chemistry joint appointee Associate Professor Cholsoon Jang was recently honored as one of three winners of the 9th Hansung Science Award, given by the Hansung Son Jae-han Scholarship Foundation. This award is given out to given to young scientists with outstanding future prospects. It honors those who carry out original research and have strong potential for future development, discovering and rewarding them each year. It was established in 2018 by the Hansung Son Jae-han Scholarship Foundation to boost the morale of young scientists and, at the same time, support the emergence of domestic Nobel laureates in science. Winners of the Hansung Science Award receive a plaque and prize money of 100 million won.

Professor Jang was recognized for elucidating, in a new way, the mechanisms of metabolic diseases and aging by integratively interpreting the network among diet, gut microbiota and organ metabolism. The Hansung Son Jae-han Scholarship Foundation stated as the reason for his selection that he is "a researcher who has demonstrated the potential for reversible therapies that restore metabolic diseases to their original state."
