David Martin, a graduate student in the Vanderwal lab, has completed a synthesis of the classic target strychnine by a longest linear sequence of only six steps. This synthesis, the shortest to date, features the cycloaddition reactivity of Zincke aldehydes as one of the key strategic elements.
