In a recent paper in Nature Chemistry, the Guan lab reports a multiphase design of stiff polymers that can repair themselves.

They can do this without any external help from light, heat, healing agents, or solvents. The work is also highlighted in recent C&EN Concentrate (http://cen.acs.org/articles/90/i14/Polymer-Heal-Thyself.html).
