No time like the present: Explicitly correlated electronic structure theory.

Abstract: Eighty years ago the Norwegian scientist Egil Hylleraas realized that an amazingly accurate wavefunction for the helium atom could be made by including dependence on the interelectronic distance explicitly. His pivotal calculations showed beyond doubt that Schrödinger formulation of quantum mechanics worked for two-electron as well as one-electron atoms.

A multimodal nonlinear optical microscope and its applications

Multimodal nonlinear optical microscopy is a valuable tool to study complex biological samples. Here we present an easy-to-operate approach to perform coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS), two-photon fluorescence (TPF), second harmonic generation (SHG), and third-harmonic generation (THG) imaging using a single laser source. Furthermore, inherently nonresonant-background-free CARS is demonstrated by controlling the polarization of three collinearly combined laser beams.
